Melissa's family has been in town with me all this week. We have been gathering as a family and remembering all of the specials things she meant to all of us. Sharing stories, tears, and joy for having her in our lives. She continues to touch our spirits everyday.
I had forgotten I took this picture. I found it on an old camera disk earlier this week. This was Christmas 2014. Melissa and I met my family on at Thunderbird Lodge on the south rim of the Grand Canyon. After a long and very cold day of hiking, we retreated to our hotel room to watch the sun set over canyon. There is a happiness and peace to her expression that has brought me a lot of solace.
Some of you may already know. Melissa was about six months pregnant with our first child, due in December. A boy we planned to name Matthew James. He was named after my best friend Matt Gottschling, her father Jim Milloy, my brother Jamie Piotrowski, and my father Ron Piotrowski (middle name James). I have had a very hard time coming to grips with why this happened, and don't know if I ever will. But, I do know that the excitement of Matt coming into our lives was something that made her truly happy. I am so thankful that it was sudden, and she was the happiest she had ever been when she left us.
I have heard the expression that "God doesn't give us more that we can handle". Well, frankly, I am going to call bullshit on that. I've had more kick in the teeth moment the past 10 days than I can count. But, every single time I have had friends and family there there to help me up. The most amazing thing to me is that it's been a different person almost every time. I feel very blessed to have all of you there for support, and want you all to know it is appreciated.
We've started to make our plans for the east coast services. We've penciled in the afternoon of Saturday, August 13th in Herndon, VA, for anyone that would like to attend. As we get closer I will get some more specifics out to the group. If you do plan to come please let me know so that I can let our wonderful hosts, Melissa's Aunt Jill and Uncle Chuck, know how many people to expect.
We will also have our celebration as planned tomorrow in Phoenix at 11:00a. All are welcome. 1541 E. Thomas Rd.
Thank you, peace and love,
